Skarn / vein W
Wolframite–scheelite W-Zn-Pb-Ag
Metals on this play: w, zn, pb, ag, au
Calibration
Comet mine, Lincoln County, NV (Wyant memo 2 Dec 1942; MRDS 10072156). Tempiute; Minerva / Shoshone scheelite.
The trap
Host. Quartz veins with wolframite (Comet) or scheelite tactite (Tempiute, Minerva).
Trap. Greisen / vein / skarn on granite or limestone contact. Dirty W concentrates carry Pb-Zn-Ag.
What a hit looks like. Heavy dark wolframite in quartz, or fluorescent scheelite in tactite. XRF W. Dirty ore also lights up Zn-Pb — that is a feature, not a fail.
Wrong mountain
Tungsten Comet (David Lewis Gemmill, 10 tons 11% WO3 to Metals Reserve Salt Lake) is not Combined Metals and not Gunlock Bill. Do not ship a Play E limestone with a W checklist.
- Comet Coalition / Pan American limestone Zn-Pb is Play E, not this.
- No W mineral, no tactite, no wolframite-bearing vein.
- Sandstone halide — Play A.
How to use the score
The score orders the day. It is a walk sort. It is not an assay, a mining claim, or permission to enter. Killed ground stays on the map so the boundary is visible. Private land, tribal land, and park interiors stay off the walk.
